Maryland Chill in the NEWS

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released its 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Teams on Friday and five members of the No. 3-ranked Salisbury University softball team found themselves among those honored in the Atlantic region.

Junior pitcher Kelly Leary (Severn, MD, Severna Park Hornets, Maryland Chill), senior catcher Lauren Brenneman (York, PA, Maryland Stars) and freshman outfielder Michelle Gravdahl (Ellicott City, MD, Maryland Chill) were all named as first-team selections. Seniors Brittany Lounge (Pasadena, MD, Riviera Beach Spirit), an outfielder, and Ali Ritter (Belvedere, NJ), a first baseman, were named to the third team.

Gravdahl has had a tremendous first season as a Sea Gull as she leads the team in doubles (20), hits (49) and on-base percent (.538). Brenneman, whose play behind the plate has contributed to the maroon and gold's stellar 33-game win streak, is also a mainstay in the batting line-up. The York, Pa., native leads the team in slugging percent (.827). In the circle, Leary's excellent pitching has undoubtedly made the job of the outfield easier. She boasts an ERA of 0.62.

The two members of the third team are also big-time contributors to the Sea Gull softball program. Lounge leads the team in stolen bases (7). Ritter is second on the team in both hits (47) and batting average (.423).
